Still vain? Yes, you are still searching for those rare vanity pets that the World of Warcraft loves to dangle in your face. Last week we took a look at my “Top 5″ binds when used rare vanity pets. This second part of the segment will focus on my “Top 5″ binds when picked up rare vanity pets. Binds when picked up means that when you find one of these lovely vanity pets, you and only you can learn them. You are not able to sell them on the Auction House or give them to a friend. Nevertheless, these vanity pets are a must have for anyone who is wanting to reach certain pet achievements such as:
- Shop Smart, Shop Pet…Smart (own 50 vanity pets) which rewards you the cute skunk named Stinker
- Lil’ Game Hunter (own 75 vanity pets) which rewards you the adorable fawn named Little Fawn
- Petting Zoo (own 100 vanity pets) which rewards you the unique squirrel named Nuts
- Littlest Pet Shop (own 150 vanity pets) which rewards you the gorgeous Celestial Dragon
My Top 5 Vanity Pets
Fox Kit:
This cute little fox is farmed in the Tol Barad Peninsula (must be level 85 to enter). This is a very rare vanity pet and has a very low drop rate of 0.1%. This pet can drop from the Baradin Fox which roam in the Tol Barad Peninsula. Alliance and Horde may farm this pet. Any faction can enter through the portal in Stormwind or Orgrimmar to get to the Tol Barad Peninsula.
Phoenix Hatchling:
This is one of my favorite vanity pets because it is a gorgeous looking fire phoenix. This rare beauty drops from the dungeon Magister’s Terrace (Regular and Heroic). The drop rate is around 8-10% according to WOW sources. This vanity pet actually drops from Kael’thas Sunstrider which is the final boss in Magister’s Terrace.
Magical Crawdad (Mr. Pinchy):
This interesting and bizarre little crawdad is indeed magical. There are only three locations to fish for this little guy. All three locations are located in Terokkar Forest:
Lake Jorune (which is located just above the Horde camp: Stonebreaker Hold)
Lake Ere’Noru (which is located just above the Alliance camp: Allerian Stronghold)
Blackwind Lake (which is located in the southeast part of Terokkar Forest)
If you are lucky enough to fish one of these up from one of the High Mixed fishing pools, you will have 3 wishes granted to you from Mr. Pinchy. You may only use 1 wish every 48 hours. Each wish grants you a chance to find the magical crawdad vanity pet. The drop rate for fishing Mr. Pinchy out of the fishing pool is around 17-19%. The chance 1 of your wishes will give you the magical crawdad vanity pet is 1 out of 5 wishes.
Sprite Darter Hatchling:
This interesting little fairy type vanity pet is a nice find for those willing to grind in Feralas. This rare find is a zone drop (can drop from any mob in a specified area) in Feralas. It’s drop rate is around 1 in every 1,000 kills. Although, I had a friend who farmed this and received 1 in around 3,200 kills. Even though it will take some major grinding, this pet is still a nice addition to your vanity pet collection.
Mr. Grubbs:
Not one of the most beautiful rare vanity pets but still categorized as a vanity pet. This gooey, icky and slimy pet drops from the Hidden Stash bag which is a zone drop in Eastern Plaguelands (usually from the 40-45 level mobs). The bag itself is around a 14% drop rate and the pet is a low drop rate from the bag.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s second segment of my “Top 5″ vanity pets. Remember, vanity is just a passing phase but in the World of Warcraft…it’s a way of life. Happy Hunting!

Awwww, I got the Sprite Darter Hatchling from a quest chain originally – this means I have to go farm it on my other alts if I want another one
Mr Grubbs – I think you need to get the ‘Fiona’s Lucky Charm’ from the first 2 or 3 quests in the zone (the caravan chain) – once you have that, the bags drop frequently. Once I’d got my Mr Grubbs, I picked up 3 more within an hour or so & just had to delete them

Thanks for the info on Mr. Grubbs. Let me know if you catch another Sprite Darter Hatchling
Good Luck!
My absolute most favorite companion pet is Mr. Pinchy himself. Glad he made the list, wouldn’t wanna bring out Angry Pinchy.

I am still farming for Mr. Pinchy…:) Wish Me Luck!
The drop rate on Mr. Grubbs from a hidden stash is NOT in fact 100%. Wowhead.com states that it is, because the only other drop from the bag is gold, which they do not count as a drop. In actuality, the drop rate from the stash is very low.
mr grubbs is a low drop rate from the bags. the bags are rare-ish, but the pet is a very low drop from the bag. definitely not 100%
I adjusted that on the page and thanks for the info
I went back and changed that to a low drop rate. Thanks for the extra information.
Now if only these were BOE pets instead of BOP… *pout* (I’m not much into collecting pets although I do have a few… I am much more into selling pets for lots of gold… lol)
