By now, with all the great advice for beginning gold makers you get from Gold Grubs, you should be starting to put 2 and 2 together. If you haven’t, you need to be maxing out your professions and working on getting all of the recipes that you can’t just learn from a trainer. You don’t need every recipe to make gold but it would defiantly help.
One of the best places that you can check every day is the auction house. This can help you gather up recipes from world drops that other players post to sell. Another good reason to keep checking the auction house is because every once in a while another player will get a recipe from a random mob and will have no idea how valuable it actually is, and they will post it for next to nothing. If you already know that recipe then you can flip it and make a profit but if you don’t know it, learn it and chances are that the reason it is so pricey to buy is because what you can make with it sells for a nice amount of gold.
Another place to collect recipes to learn or to sell is in the vendors in each town. When you are in any town, at level 85 or at level 10, check every merchant to see if they have any recipes. Pick up a few of each in addition to what you pick up to learn for your professions. These sell well because when you are leveling a new profession at 85, the time it takes to go find things yourself is not worth the gold it would take to purchase them off the auction house at a 1000% mark up.
Once you have all the easy recipes picked up, it’s time to start finding the rarer ones that will help you get into a market that not everyone and their brother are in. A perfect example of this is the Mongoose enchant, this drops off of Moroes in Karazhan and at 85, he is easily soloed by most classes. It used to take a bit of preparation getting keyed for Karazhan but, with 4.2, that isn’t necessary anymore and not everyone knows that. So get in this market and make some gold with your enchanter before everyone figures it out.
I have been selling these for the last year and a half and still get 400 gold each for them. This is the type of recipe that the majority of players will just buy and be done with. This is a great example of a niche market.
With any profession I like to do a search on Wowhead and know exactly what recipes are out there and which are still viable for; Twinks, Levelers, PVPers, and level 85’s. Then I will check the auction house to see what my competition will be if I spend the time to get that recipe.
Next week, I am going to go through enchanting and explain the specific types of recipes I am referring to. If you know of any or want to share your finds, post a comment!!!

One little addon that I find really useful for this is ACKIS – it adds a button to your crafting window & gives a list of all recipes/patterns/plans etc that you don’t have yet. It also lists them by zones & has a pop out for who sells/drops them. I’ve mainly used it for cooking on my main alt because I want the Iron Chef achievement but it works for all professions.
