Where To Farm For Cooking Meats In Mists of Pandaria?

Cooking Quests and The Tiller’s Union

The Introduction of the Tillers faction and all of their participating farmers whom each have their own Friendship levels of reputation has been an amazing source of income for many WoW players.  Both veteran and brand new players can take full advantage of the various ways to make gold in WoW offered with the introduction of the Tillers Union.

The Tiller’s Union Daily Quests and the Cooking quests required to level your Cooking skill with the various “Ways” both require a huge amount of Vegetables, Meats, and Fish.  Many of these required meats, vegetables, and fish can be grown on your own farm plots in Halfhill or can be farmed or fished from the various wildlife within the Mists of Pandaria zones.

Be sure to check out Cold’s post on the shopping lists of a Tiller’s Union Daily Quest grinder.  There are a ton of food items that are required every day to complete all of the cooking and Tiller daily quests.

Farming For Cooking Materials

Vegetables

Vegetables can be grown on your own farm and get more profitable as you unlock more plots of farmable soil on your personal Halfhill farm.  Unfortunately you must be level 90 to start unlocking the extra plots, but your level 85s can get their 4 plot farm running with little trouble.

Fish

Fish can be obtained throughout their waterways, rivers, streams, and oceans of Pandaria.  The best way to obtain the proper fish required for the Cooking quests is to fish from within a Pool of the desired fish.  Fishing within pools takes only a level 1 skill in Fishing.

Meats

Farming the meats for cooking are the hardest, most time consuming, and often the most profitable of the cooking materials.  You must farm the cooking meats from the proper creatures of Pandaria.  Fortunately, Nev from Auction House Addict has compiled a new series on just where the best places are to farm the various Cooking required meats of Mists of Pandaria.

5 Ways to Make Gold on a Low Level Bank Alt

auctioneer lady 5 Ways to Make Gold on a Low Level Bank AltAlmost every gold blog going has suggested a low level bank alt for newbie goldmakers – it’s a basic necessity when you first start out on your gold making journey. I’d also say it’s a necessity when you first start playing the game or when you want to start fresh on a new server. Having the ability to just mail everything saleable to one alt & then list it at the AH later saves so much time while questing & you maximise your profits instead of vendoring or just deleting stuff to make space!

Now I always feel the need to level my banker a little – probably because I really enjoy those first lowbie zones but also (especially on a new server) because it raises a little cash to start the ball rolling. But my banker doesn’t just sit in Stormwind, oh no – she has work to do as part of my gold making routine. I thought I’d list just a few of the things my bankers do for me & how your banker can work a little harder for you too.

1. Limited Supply Vendor Recipes & Pets

I pretty much covered this in last week’s post re the RecipeProfit addon but for my banker – she just does a run around Ironforge with an occasional side trip to Darnassus or Exodar to purchase any recipes/patterns/plans etc that are available from various vendors.

For the pets, I have found the Moth Eggs from Exodar are my best sellers with the White Kitten available in Stormwind from Lil Timmy selling for the highest price. Unfortunately Timmy is on a 3hour spawn timer so getting a regular supply of White Kittens is difficult.

2. Flipping items on the AH – Buy Low, Sell Higher

Using Auctioneer or Auctionator, you can often find some really good deals – I tend to stick with trade items like cloth or low level gems (malachite/star ruby/aquamarine  especially). I tend to stay away from armor & weapons purely because prices can vary so much, they can take a while to resell & the AH deposit fees are usually quite high. One or two relists & you could easily wipe out any profits.

3. Cooking

Yes, cooking! If you base your alt in one of the capital cities that has cooking dailies, you can do the cooking daily to get XP & some cash & spend your Chef’s Awards on the bag of Imported Supplies. Once opened, it will give you Cocoa Beans – usually 2 stacks which you can sell on the AH. Check the price of Chocolate Cookies on your server & price your Cocoa Beans just below – that way, the Cookie Makers will be able to buy your beans & still make some profits.

Obviously, if you’ve levelled your banker much higher then you can also look on the AH for meat & fish to cook up into buff foods – watch the prices for a few days before jumping in though – I find buff food prices to be very erratic on my server.

4. Inscription

This one isn’t for everybody as it does require some ‘nursing’ to get the best returns. I did a post on my own blog back at the beginning of July with a level 10 bank alt glypher – I won’t try to re-write the post here but basically, if you can get really cheap herbs on your server, you can probably make a nice profit on glyphs & Darkmoon Faire Decks.

5. Tailoring/Enchanting

Why these two professions in particular? Well I’m aiming this at people who are still levelling new characters through the lowest zones – you will pick up shedloads of linen cloth & wool cloth & although you could just sell it on the AH, I have often found that prices for a stack are ridiculously low due to the almost unlimited supply. It also doesn’t matter what professions you have on your levelling alts – they will pick up cloth anyway. However, when you use this cheap linen to make into something using your tailoring (for example, Brown Linen Pants) , you can then disenchant it & sell the enchanting materials for a much higher price.

You can also search the AH for armor & re-sort the listing to show by lowest bid price – anything below say 50silver may be worth bidding on to be disenchanted. I’ve been doing exactly this on my main server – my budget is a little higher as I have maxed my enchanting & I am looking for materials across the whole range but I am still making some nice profits. Not huge profits admittedly but that’s not actually the aim for me – I’m trying to get the Guild Achievement!

I’m sure there are loads of other ways to make gold with a low level banker – what’s your favorite method of maximising your bank alt?

Til next week

Murlocs, Coyotes and Cooking..Oh My!

cooking 300x193 Murlocs, Coyotes and Cooking..Oh My!

My horde death knight is mainly pvp but I realized that his cooking was extremely low. I decided to check out my local auction house for some low-level meat to level up my cooking. Two of my recipes required clam meat and coyote meat.  The auction house had none. I decided to find out where to farm these. I was hoping to stay in Kalimdor but unfortunately had to venture to Westfall (Alliance territory).  I went to Longshore in Westfall and started from one side of the coast.  I killed every murloc I came across (ahhh sweet revenge).  The murlocs there drop small barnacled clams.  These clams contain clam meat and sometimes a small lustrous pearl.  I farmed for about 30 minutes and collected 40-45 small barnacled clams.  The drop rate for the small barnacled clams was 1 in every 2 murlocs.  Each of these clams contained 1 clam meat. I proceeded to the Jansen Stead area in Westfall and killed as many coyotes as I could find.  These coyotes were also located near of Furlbrow’s Pumpkin Patch.  Coyote meat drops from around 1 in every 4 coyotes.  I farmed these coyotes for 30 minutes as well and picked up 25 coyote meats. I headed back to Orgrimmar so that I could start cooking.

Light My Fire

I ended up using only 20 of the clam meats and decided to put up the rest of the clam meat in the auction house in stacks of 5.  Since there was none up for sale, I posted my clam meat for 45-50 gold per stack of 5.  To justify this price, I figured the travel time, time spent farming and carrying charges.  I only used 15 of the coyote meats and decided to post the other 10 up in stacks of 5 as well.  Once again, there were none up for sale.  I put the coyote meat up for 45-50 per stack of 5 utilizing the same justifications for the clam meat.  By the time I was ready to log for the day, that all too familiar notification popped up in my general chat box: A buyer has been found for your clam meat.  This repeated 4 more times indicating I had sold all of my clam meat.  Sheer delight engulfed me.  Then, not a minute later, I received more notifications.  They read: A buyer has been found for your coyote meat.  This repeated once more.  Eureka!  My farming had paid off.  Interestingly enough,  both meats had been purchased by the same buyer.  No doubt, they were also leveling up their cooking and didn’t want to go out and farm for the meat.

I did a little personal research and found that the small barnacled clam also drops from coralshell lurkers in Azshara which is much closer to Orgrimmar.  The coyote meat, however, only drops in Westfall.  Although, you can level up to move to higher recipes with the clam meat and it is easier to acquire.  Keep in mind these prices are realm dependent.  Supply and demand on each realm varies.  Whether you are trying to level up your cooking or make some extra gold, check your ingredients for your recipes and check your auction house to see what you can farm to raise your gold level.

Low Level Items to Craft for Profit – Part 3

standing on furniture Low Level Items to Craft for Profit Part 3

As promised, a round up of a some items for the last few professions in the list. In Part 1 here, I covered leatherworking, tailoring, alchemy & inscription whilst in part 2 here, I covered engineering, blacksmithing, jewelcrafting & enchanting. This week, I thought I’d round up a few odd bits & pieces from the gathering professions of mining & skinning as well as the secondary professions of cooking & fishing. I’m not going to look at Archeology for 2 reasons 1) I haven’t had a go at it yet & 2) I’m not sure it’s really a gold making profession as such!

Mining

Mining is mainly a gathering profession but you can also smelt the raw ores into bars. This on it’s own can sometimes be a profitable second step. Many miners just put their ores straight onto the AH but it’s worth looking at the price of bars too. Why? Because some Blacksmiths, Engineers & Jewelcrafters buy all their bars from the AH as they dropped mining to use that profession slot for a crafting profession.

The highest priced ores on my server tend to be the Outland ones – Fel Iron, Adamantite & of course, Khorium. Cobalt from Northrend is also in short supply as is Titanium so if your miner is high enough for these zones, you should make some good profits here.

The other processes available to miners that immediately jumped to my mind for this article are -

Enchanted Thorium Bar – skill level 250, learned from the trainer. Used by Blacksmith/Enchanter combination to create & disenchant Enchanted Thorium Blades for Greater Eternal Essences.

Smelt Khorium – skill level 375, trainer taught. Khorium is a rare ore in itself so always good profits but the khorium bar is used by engineers to make a Khorium Power Core – a key component of the Turbo-charged Flying Machine. I’ve sold a few khorium bars for 100g each, such is the rarity of this ore & the bars.

Skinning

The beauty of skinning for me is the fact that whilst out questing, you’re killing these creatures anyway, you may as well make the most of them! Once you hit skill 100, you can divide your skill level by 5 to find out what level mob you can skin. So, for example, if your skill is 200, you can skin mobs upto level 40.When skinning, you don’t just get leathers, you can also pick up hides, various scales like black dragonscale, turle scale, fel scale but also arctic fur (Northrend) and in Cataclysm zones, a Strange Bloated Stomach (eeewww!) which gives you a random bonus of volatiles.

The most expensive skinned items on my server are heavy leather, rugged leather and of course, savage leather (Cata) but all hides & the various scales also sell well.

Herbalism

It’s difficult to pick a particular bit of herbalism for this article as so many herbs sell well at all levels. Particular ones to watch prices for are Briarthorn & Goldthorn as well as all the Outland ones (Felweed, terocone, dreaming glory etc).

Fishing

Not renowned for being the most profitable pastime but there are a few fish which sell really well. Many of the cataclysm fish are used for the highest level buff foods so these are a fairly obvious good money item but lower down the scale, alchemists need Oily Blackmouth & Firefin Snapper to name just 2. I find these sell for a nice price albeit slowly as you need a levelling alchemist to be looking for them. If you really enjoy fishing, there are some great pets & fishing rods to be fished up as well as 2 fishing competitions on the weekends. Head over to Els Anglin’ for all things fishing related – it’s got everything you could ever wish to know about fishing in WoW.

Linking in to Cooking below, you can also visit Wailing Caverns & Northern Barrens for the Deviate Fish. It sells well on its’ own & if you eat it, you get a random, shortlived effect.

Cooking

The most profitable cooked items are of course, the top level Cataclysm buff foods but as I mentioned briefly above, cooking your Deviate Fish into Savory Deviate Delight will almost always make you more money! This recipe used to be a very rare drop but I recently levelled a lowbie hordie & got 4 in one session of questing in the Northern Barrens. If you are Alliance, have a look on your AH if you don’t want to farm the recipe – there are usually quite a few available at reasonable prices but I wouldn’t pay more than say, 20gold.

The other way to make a bit of gold with cooking is to do the cooking dailes in the main cities which rewards about 10g as well as a Chef’s Award. You can only do 1 cooking daily per day per character but if you are lower level, they do award good XP & you can use the Chef’s Awards to buy a bag of Imported Supplies containing lots of Cocoa Beans. Cold nicknamed me the Chocolate Cookie Queen – at one point, I was converting the cocoa beans into Chocolate Cookies with my maxed cook & selling maybe 800 cookies per week! Even if you don’t have maxed cooking yet, a level 10 or above can do the cooking dailies to get the cocoa beans. Most bags contain at least 20 & sometimes 40 cocoa beans which I was selling at 1g each!

So there we go – all professions covered except archeology & first aid. I hope you’ve found this series helpful & I’m always open to comments or suggestions for any items you think I have missed.

Until next week, happy gold making
