Lately, most of my time spent in game has consisted of leveling up battle pets. It’s something I was intrigued by when it was first announced as part of Mists of Pandaria. I haven’t spend a ton of time playing, since release, but I still have noticed a few things that might help anyone who hasn’t tried it yet.

Beginners

  • Do the trainer quests. At your battle pet trainer in each faction’s main city, you can start a chain quest to beat pet trainers throughout the world. Not only do these quests offer more experience than regular battles, but they also reward you with pet related items that might help you level up faster or cosmetically alter your pets when outside of battle.
  • Level more than 3 pets at a time. When you start out, you’re only offered the option to fight one pet at a time. As you level, you unlock the ability to use up to three in each battle. I suggest leveling 5-6 at a time. Your cooldown for healing and resurrecting them is 8 minutes, unless you’re near a stable master. When you level multiple pets, you can continue to do battles if one or two pets die before the 8 minute cooldown is up. It might also be smart to pick pets from different classifications.
  • Capture one of every pet you encounter, especially if they’re rare quality. While leveling you’ll encounter a bunch of different pets. I felt it helped me level faster if I captured them and tryed using some of them. Some of these pets have nice abilities that you might never discover otherwise.
  • Learn your pet’s strengths and weaknesses. Each class’s attacks have another class they are strong and weak against. The problem is that each pet doesn’t only have attacks from their class. So sometimes choosing the right attacks could mean all the difference in battle. I recommend finding a chart that shows all this information and print it out for easy access. The one I’m using doesn’t appear on that site anymore, but this (http://www.wowjuju.com/uploads/gallery/album_12/med_gallery_2_12_95535.jpg) one is similar.

Advanced

  • Play around with different pet combinations. Some pets have abilities that deal more damage if an enemy is “burning” or “chilled”. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across any pets that will both chill an enemy and cause more damage when they’re chilled. They may be some, but I don’t know about them. That’s why playing around with pet combinations can come in handy. Also, there are abilities that will increase damage by any upcoming attacks. Try pairing those with the most powerful attacks from other pets.
  • Take advantage of your pet’s passive class ability. Every pet class has a special passive ability. These abilities can help you map out a strategy for how to advanced in battle. For example, Mechanical units come back to life with 25% health once per battle, meaning you can wait until you’re one attack away from dying to cast a healing spell, knowing that you can benefit from that additional 25%.
  • Level in a zone higher than you’re current pet’s level. This will grant you more experience and help your pets level faster. When leveling from 1-15, you only face one or two pets at a time. It’s very easy to kill two level 13 pets with three level 11s. Plus, when you capture pets at a higher level, you can throw the newly added ones into battle and they’ll already be the same level as the ones you’re currently using.

Expert

  • Get some more pets!!! There are a ton of pets out there and it’s your job to find them. Searching through past expansion dungeons, reputations and vendors might reward some hidden gem pets that would otherwise go untouched.
  • Let your pets die. When leveling multiple pets at once, it’s sometimes a good idea to let one pet die in battle. If you have a higher level pet, and you let it get killed, all  the experience will instead be granted to another pet. Meaning you can do all the grunt work with a more powerful pet, only to have a weaker pet jump in for the final attack and benefit as if it killed all the enemies.

Recommended Add-ons

  • PetTracker (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/pettracker) – displays, on your main map, the location of either any pets in the zone, any pet you don’t own a rare version of, or any pets missing from your collection. It’ll also display what your opponent’s abilities are, enabling you to switch to another pet when facing something that’s strong against your current pet.
  • BattlePetCount (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/battlepetcount) – displays how many of each pet you have, they’re level and quality, both in battle and before you start a fight.

Resources

  • WarcraftPets.com (http://www.warcraftpets.com/) – They were the #1 source for companion pets even before pet battles were introduced. Now they’ve outdone themselves. They include information on every pet in game and they allow users to upload their collections to compare them to other members.
  • Global Pet Battle League (http://gpbl.gkick.net/) – Want to try out your skills against other players in a bracket style tournament? Now you can!

Thanks for the guest post, Ryan!  The goblin students appreciate it!

The Klaxxi Faction Guide

The Klaxxi
This guide is more of a summary of links that you can use if you have any questions you need answered quickly. I didn’t go into the dailies in detail because let’s face it, you pick up all the blue “!” open your map and go to the area. Once you do them you will fly through them quickly. At Honored, players can purchase Restorative Amber, which is like Major Dreamless Sleep Potion with a vanity effect. They can also buy a wide assortment of Justice Points gear and Blacksmithing recipes.
Chests: (2200 Justice Points)
Wrists: (1250 Justice Points)
Hands: Honored (1750 Justice Points)
Blacksmithing Plans: Honored (20 Kyparite each)
Belts: Revered (1750 Valor Points)
To grind rep with The Klaxxi, you’ll have to do a long quest line in Dread Wastes starting with Psycho Mantid. This should get you to Honored, where there are at least 6 quests available from the Elders you freed.
Also at Revered, you free two more Paragons, who give you additional daily quests. There are 3 different hidden dailies that available as drops for elite mobs in the areas where the other dailies are located.
  • Kypa’rak – Found at 34.0, 62.1 in the Dread Wastes. Once you kill this elite mob it will drop the Massive Kypraite Core which starts a quest you can hand in as a daily with the same associated rewards as other dailies for the Klaxxi. This elite also has a chance to drop an ilevel 450 staff as well, Kaleiki’s Lost Training Staff, it looks to be ok for Agility based classes.
  • Warload Gurthan – Found at 66.3, 31.5 in the Dread Wastes. You will need help summoning this elite mob, there is 2 runes on the ground and one person has to /kneel in on and the other person has to /sleep on the other for the boss to spawn. Once killed he will drop The Ashes of Warlord Gurthan, which starts a quest you can hand in as a daily with the same associated rewards as other dailies for the Klaxxi. This elite can also drop an ilevel 429 green crossbow but it’s nothing to write home about.
  • Karanosh –Found at 41.8, 32.8 in the Dread Wastes. Once you kill this elite mob it will drop Enormous Kunchong Mandibles which starts a quest you can hand in as a daily with the same associated rewards as other dailies for the Klaxxi.
At Exalted, you can pick up vanity-themed items. Klaxxi Tabard is a tabard that only serves a cosmetic purpose, while Reins of the Amber Scorpion should especially make Alliance players happy, as it’s a Horde-style scorpion mount. The most interesting reward at Exalted is a series of ilevel 463 weapons with distinctive amber-dipped looks for transmog.
Weapons: Exalted (Sold for Gold)
Also at Exalted, you can get an epic ilevel 489 ring from completing Shadow of the Empire. You must ensure you’ve completed Amber is the Color of My Energy before this quest will appear to you, even if Exalted. After you unlock all of the Klaxxi elders, you can request buffs from them, Enhancements and Augments.

When you reach 575 you can purchase vendor recipes for the last 25 points. The Tailoring recipes are on a vendor in Vale of Eternal Blossoms;

Some of the patterns sold require Level 590 tailoring. Each pattern will set you back 1 Spirit of Harmony or 10 Motes of Harmony. Make what you want or can use the patterns range from 4 Bolts of Windwool to 8 bolts of Windwool to craft. I usually will craft Shoulders, Chest, Helm and Gloves to sell when it comes to PvP gear. Mainly for 2 reasons;

  1. These slots historically sell the fastest
  2. They serve another purpose now, Transmoging, these are the most visible pieces on your character so if players don’t buy them to cheat the LFD iLevel requirements and don’t buy them to PvP in they will buy them to Transmog. That may be justification for the first reason.

Below is the specific crafting path I took:

576 – 591: 5 x Contender’s Silk Amice +3 Skill per

  • 20 Bolts of Windwool Cloth

591 – 595: 1 x Contender’s Silk Cowl +4 Skill per

  • 10 Bolts of Windwool Cloth

595 – 600: 1 x Imperial Silk +5 Skill per

  • 8 Bolts of Windwool Cloth

At this point you need to check out this post by Nev at AHaddict to find out which Mist of Pandaria faction to work on reputation with so you can get the epic patterns. Make sure you do your Imperial Silk cool down, EVERYDAY, whether you have the patterns to use them on or not yet. You can only make one Imperial Silk per day and they are soul bound.

Gold Making Tips For Low Pop WoW Servers

Low Population Realms - A Whole New World

If you’re a player on a low population realm, you’ve probably already noticed that making money isn’t as easy as other players make it out to be. You’ve tried your hand at flipping transmog items, craftable BoEs or even Mysterious Fortune Cards, and none of it has turned a noticable profit.

All of this is simply because on low population realms, different rules apply than on higher population realms., and sadly, what could make you ten thousands of gold a day on a high population realm, could turn into an endless relisting fee on your small realm.

I decided to write this for those of you who want to know how to overcome these issues, and still make money regardless of the population of your server. I have played on EU-Sarschield Legion for a number of years now, and the realm itself is the second least active realm out of all the English speaking EU realms. There are about 260 level 90 Alliance characters who are my primary market. I don’t claim to be an expert, and everything I type is based on what I’ve observed on my own realm. Regardless, I hope this article will help you in raking in some gold on your own server!

Differences Between a High Population Realm and a Low Population Realm

Why do these differences exist? The biggest reason is simple and obvious; there are less potential buyers for your product.

“What’s the big deal?” You might say, “that also means I’ll have less competition,” and while that’s definitely true, it also means that for some niche products your list of buyers is practically nill. Since Transmogging was introduced, I’ve seen maybe 10 people looking for Transmog items. Not quite the fat stacks of money you would’ve imagined reading most goldblogs in the last couple of months.

Another reason, that’s a little more subtle, is that low population realms typically do not attract new players.

People playing on one have probably been there for years. There will ofcourse be a few new players every once in a while, but the majority of them will be friends of current players.

The effect this has on the market is that it reduces the potential buyers of niche objects even more. There will be a higher percentage of players that already have the rare drop that you’re looking to sell, provided it drops in old content, of course.

Now obviously, you can still score big if you find a BoE mount or something like that, but it will take a lot more time to find a buyer, sometimes weeks or even months.

This leads me into my next topic, which is:

Effort

Making money on a small realm takes a lot of effort, and you might not even make as much as you’d like to. This is an unfortunate truth that you will have to learn to acccept. There are less people on your realm, which means there there is less money going around in your economy, and less of it will end up in your pocket because of it.

Another thing you’ll have to keep in mind is how many people will need a product on any given day.

Let’s take something like gems, an item that you know people will need everyday.

Now let’s say you’re on a high population realm, and everyday 50-100 people will need one or more gems, depending on realm size. That’s probably more than you can supply in a day anyway, so it’s not a very big deal if you miss out on some of those sales. Now imagine that instead of 50-100, there are only about 4 or 5 people looking to buy gems everyday, maybe less on a bad day, and suddenly it becomes a lot more important that you make sure you always have the lowest price for an item. It can potentially only take one undercut to prevent you from selling any of that type of item that day.

Making Money Using Professions

Alright, enough doom and gloom! Let’s focus on what you can do on a low population realm to make money.

The answer is actually quite simple: you’ll want to focus on selling items that everybody needs, like gems and enchanting materials. That’s why, in my opinion, the ore shuffle is once again the safest way to make money. Not only are you unlikely to ever lose money on it unless something incredibly weird happens to the price of ores, but the shuffle will only become more profitable as the expansion goes on, and more gem slots appear in gear.

Nevertheless, my advice is to have more on the auction house than gems and enchanting mats alone, and that’s why I’ll talk about every profession seperately, and what I feel their worth is, as well as my experience with them.

First off, let’s talk about gathering. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, you can make a lot of money with these professions. The fact that there’s less people also means that you will almost never run into a bot, and you will often find yourself without any competition for nodes. The best part is that it’s incredibly hard to run out of buyers for these items as they’re used in almost every profession.

As for the other professions, here’s a list, and what my experience with each is, and any advice I may have.

Alchemy

This is one of the professions that I’d say is vital to anyone that wants to make money on a small realm. As of me writing this, flasks are not yet profitable to make for me as a Transmutation master, but I have no doubt that that will improve as the price of Golden Lotus declines.

More importantly though, I have found that Trillium bars sell quite well. In fact, if the price of a stack of Ghost Iron Ore is less than the price of one Trillium Bar, you’re already making a profit.

Blacksmithing

I’d say Blacksmithing is very safe to skip over. Crafted PvP gear may have been able to be profitable in the first few weeks as everyone was desperately trying to increase their item level, but now that that initial rush has died down somewhat has become hard to get rid of.

Belt Buckles are needed by everyone, but not regularly enough for me to justify using this profession.

Enchanting

Another profession that you’ll need to get. Not only is it necessary for the shuffle, it also provides you with a Sha Crystal on a daily cooldown, which you can either sell raw, or if you have Enchanting on a character that you’re also doing dailies with, use them to create enchants that are reputation locked. This is once again a very slim market though, and I’d advise against it.

Engineering

The big thing about Engineering in this expansion is that they have two mounts to make. In my personal opinion, this is once again one of the things that can make you a lot of money on a higher population server. On a Low Population server though, I don’t think this one’s worth all the trouble you’d have to go through to find a buyer.

Inscription

Darkmoon decks, you’ve probably heard about them. Everyone’s been making a lot of money on these on the big servers, but right now, I have only sold one of these cards to a very desperate person on the last day of the previous Darkmoon Faire. It’s a bit of a gamble right now, but if this is a bubble, it’s about to burst any minute. However, I feel that the amount of potential profit to be made off of the Cards is worth the risk right now, but it’s important that you try to finish your decks before the next Faire ends, a Trinket will be easier to sell than a deck that turns into a Trinket a month later.

Glyphs are another story entirely. I had expected to make a lot of money on these, specifically on Monk glyphs. Unfortunately, this blew up in my face, and I don’t think I’ve sold more than five Glyphs in the last three weeks. This might be different per server though.

I’d say Inscription is worth using right now, and you can always fall back on the Shoulder Enchants if everything else doesn’t work.

Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting is absolutely necessary if you plan to make any money as it is part of the shuffle. Pick this up ASAP.

You may have heard that you can make a lot of money selling the iLvL 450 jewelery, this may be true for larger servers, but I have found this to be untrue on my own server, and I’d advice to steer clear of these.

Leatherworking

I find Leatherworking to be largely not worth it. Just like Blacksmithing, it only creates one item enhancement. It’s safe to skip this one.

Tailoring

Tailoring can either be completely worth it, or completely useless to you, depending on wether or not you learn it on the character that you do your dailies with. The reason for this is that the pattern for Royal Satchel, the new 28 slot bag, is available only once you are revered with The August Celestials.

If you don’t have this profession on your main, I’d steer clear of it.

General Advice

A small market also means that it’s relatively easy to reset it if the price for an item drops to an amount you’re not happy with. For some items there simply won’t be any on the Auction House when you post yours. You can use this to your advantage, but remember to not go overboard on how you set your price. This also applies in the other direction, if a market is reset, someone might underprice an item when they list it, and you can pick up some cheap items with little effort.

Another thing that doesn’t just apply to small servers, but is a fantastic way to reduce your spending, is to find someone who’s willing to mine/herb for you. They may not be willing to deal with the Auction House, and you can offer them a guaranteed sale for whatever they gather. Just ask around in Trade for miners/herbalists looking to make some money, you never know how much money you could save. I currently have two people supplying me with ore, I give 60 gold a stack to one, and 50 gold a stack to the other.

Try to be as diverse in what you have to offer as possible, but sell your gems uncut. Jewelcrafters need them for their daily cooldown, and cut gems often sell for less money than the uncut version on my server.

In Closing

With these tips, I have no doubt in my mind that you can make money on your server as well, the most important part is to stay safe, and to not base your income around niche items that will not sell on small servers. So unless you have a buyer in advance, don’t risk gold on something that you might not be able to sell for a profit.

I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope it will benefit you in the goal that you’ve set for yourself, whether that’s ten thousand, or a million gold!

Banned: The Most Redonkulus Ways To Easily Make Crazy Gold On The World of Warcraft Auction House

hearthcast logo 300x300 Banned: The Most Redonkulus Ways To Easily Make Crazy Gold On The World of Warcraft Auction HouseWe hear the goblins say it all the time… “time is money, friend!”… but do we ever stop to think of what that really means?

It’s not just a cliché from an NPC telling us to hurry up with whatever business we’re conducting with them, but rather it is a secret formula that leads to unheard of profits within the game.

Let’s look at some basic auction house secrets explained by some simple clichés.

Keep Your Nose To The Grindstone!

Over on Hearthcast, Carnage gives a weekly tip with a grind that results in pretty good returns. That grind usually involes going somewhere, killing someone, and looting something… over and over again, then taking that something you got frome someone somewhere and selling it on the auction house for crazy gold.

Location, Location, Location!

Patterns, recipes, limited quantity items, and tradeskill ingredients are bought from vendors for mere silver and sold on the auction house for easy profits every day.

One Mans Trash is Another Mans Treasure!

BOE items you can’t use for any of your toons, items you bought with extra Justice Points, raw materials from gathering skills, things from random chests or lockboxes… even some trivial grey items that you fished up… all of them hold a value to someone else on the Auction House

Another Day Another Dollar!

When I was conducting the “Phatwallet Experiment”, (where i took a level 1 toon, ported to a major city, was given 100 gold, and could only make gold by way of reselling vendor items or relisting auction house items) I practically lived at the AH. I spent hours each day scanning the auctions, looking for deals. I made a ton of gold, the key being the consistency in which I was performing my actions.

Measure Up To The Business At Hand

Here’s a secret for you: whenever I leave the game to look up information, and I have to actually “work” for that information, I make a mental note of it. Case in point, Winter Veil and ginger bread cookies. I had a slightly difficult time locating the vendor in Orgrimar who sells the recipe. The information online wasn’t all in one place. It took effort to find out who sold it, their general area, and their name. Once I found them (10 steps away from the quest giver),I bought 21 recipes. One for me, 20 to list on the Auction House…. at 10 to 15 gold each. I sold out within minutes, and went back to buy more.

Laughing All The Way To The Bank

When I make a big sale on the Auction House that fits into the clichés above, it makes me giddy! I smile, and sometimes laugh, at how easy it is sometimes to make gold on the AH in WOW.

So remember, when you’re wandering about Azeroth, pay attention to the very things around you – they could be untapped piles of gold!

Auctionator Proves To Be Better Than Auctioneer For This World Of Warcraft Auction House Player

I was an avid Auctioneer user, up to patch 4.3, which left me with a broken addon making the Auction House rather useless to me. By Auctioneer not being up to speed with their add on, they gave me no choice but to seek another solution.

4.3 left me with a broken Auctioneer, but gave me the opportunity to expand my horizons by allowing me the opportunity to install Auctionator.

Within just a few moments after installing Auctionator, I was incredibly impressed – and slightly confused.

I visited the Auction House, and, logically, scanned the AH. Instead of the 20+ minutes Auctioneer took, I was done with the scan within seconds. What had I done wrong? Nothing. It’s simply a better system. (Time is money, friend!)

Auctionator Basic Setup

Enable alt-key shortcut allows me to alt-click an item in my bag and have it automatically post to the AH.
The other options are pretty straight forward, but you can easily see they’re designed to save the user time.

Auctionator Tool Tips

Again, pretty straight forward tool tips. These will give you very good pricing information on the items you loot. I like to get the individual price first, and then the stack price when I hold down the shift key.

Auctionator Undercutting

FINALLY, a semi-decent way to logically undercut someone! These are the defaults it comes with. You’ll most likely want to tweak those settings out a bit for your server. I am so happy to have options in an undercut market place!

Sellling With Auctionator

In Auctionators Basic Options, my default tab is set to SELL, and my bags automatically open up. That means as soon as I interact with the Auction House NPC, I’m ready to go. Then I just Alt-Click on the item in my bag, and it’s posted up for me.

I will point out that you need to tell Auctionator how many stacks of how many you’re going to sell. 2 stacks of 20, 4 of 10… your choice. It does tell you the max, but it can be hard to see, as it’s kind of greyed out under the option box. As soon as you make your choice, it will create the auctions you set.

Buying With Auctionator

Sometimes, you gotta buy.. ok, a lot of the time… and, Auctionator makes it super easy. Shopping lists? Remembering what I searched for? REALLY? AWESOME

Small Eggs are a wonderful investment (and even better if you farm them!). People will toss a stack of 20 up for 20 gold, but when a seasonal even that requires Small Eggs comes up, they’ll easily sell for 40-50 gold… And, of course, Auctionator makes it easy to buy multiples!

Auctionator Checks For Undercutters

While there are some other addons that do this for you, I like that this one is inside Auctionator. You scan, it tells you if you’re being undercut, and then lets you start cancelling your auctions.

Click the start cancelling button, and it does the work for you…

Then simply relist the items to undercut the person undercutting you – let the wars begin!
Coincidently, when I was screen shotting this stuff for this article…

I also mentioned on Twitter that Auctionator pulled in an accidental 2K for me. It’s true. While I was toying around with the features to decide if I wanted to stay with Auctionator or wait around for the other guys to figure things out, I found over 2K gold worth of stuff I had lying around, over priced, or poorly listed. With just the help of the tool tips and the scans, I was able to turn 2K in less than 30 minutes, all by accident.

Why Auctionator Proves To Be Better Than Auctioneer For This World Of Warcraft Auction House Player

    Speed Of Auction House Scanning
    More Fluid Options For Selling
    Better Undercutting Scanning
    Tool Tips With Options!

It’s my honest opinion that Auctionator was extremely well thought out, and that with just a few moments of tinkering, the average player could be easily on their way to making gold in the Auction House.

I installed Auctionator using the Curse Addon Manager. It was painless, and I highly recommend it as the tool for the World of Warcraft Auction House

WoW Gold Tip | Find Cheaper Materials On The Auction House

desert.sunrise web WoW Gold Tip | Find Cheaper Materials On The Auction House

Want To Find Cheaper Raw Materials On The WoW Auction House?

Many of us goblin gold makers in World of Warcraft steer clear of farming our own raw materials like herbs, skins, and ores.  We know that is a much better time investment to just purchase the materials at profitable prices from the WoW auction house.  I’m not saying that we never farm for raw materials, but only in the most dire of circumstances or when we need a high demand, low supply item (like Khorium).  Being that we are tied to buying our raw materials predominantly from the WoW auction house, we can only use the auction house prices of raw materials for determining the crafting costs and potential profits.

If the prices of those raw goods we need to craft aren’t at acceptable prices, then we must turn to our stockpile of stored raw materials.  If our stockpile of WoW crafting raw materials is empty, then we are severely handicapped in our ways to make gold in WoW.  I highly recommend shopping for raw crafting materials on a daily basis, regardless of whether you will be using them immediately or not.  Always having a  stockpile of raw materials purchased at reasonable prices to fall back on, will help weather the pricing spikes that you may see in the auction house.

How To Find Cheaper WoW Auction House Materials

One may to make more profit per sale is to find cheaper raw materials.  When your costs to craft is cheaper, then you can sell for less and still make a profit or you can sell for the same prices and have more profit built into each transaction.  Here are the 2 best tips I can give more finding cheaper raw materials on the WoW auction house.

  1. Weekends see a flood of players and a flood of items on the auction house, which usually leads to cheaper prices on the weekends.
  2. Morning shopping gives a better chance for cheaper materials than shopping throughout the day.
As more players have more play time on the weekends you will see prices trend downwards as more players equates to more sellers (more competition).  As we talk about in the upcoming episode of The Auction House Junkies gold making podcast, shopping in the early morning, especially on weekend and Monday mornings, tends to give a better chance at finding lower priced raw materials on the WoW auction house.  Why?  Overnight there tends to be more sellers posting their goods at the end of the play day before they go to bed, while the numbers of buyers drops as players log off for the night.  By the morning time, you can often find a lot of raw materials that have sat on the auction house all night and have seen undercutting and a flooding of posted goods.  Since there are less people on in the wee hours of the night, less items sell and the prices continue to trend downwards until someone logs in during the morning and buys out all those cheaply priced raw materials.  That person could be you.
Try changing your first log in time of the day to an early morning time.  I like to check the auction house prices as I am getting ready for work in the morning so that I can quickly snatch up any of the goods that have trended downward overnight.  Cheaper materials give me more profit so it’s worth logging in a few extra minutes in the morning to both get the cheaper goods for myself and to limit the availability to my competitors looking for the same low price goods.

What Is A Gold Sink?

Gold Sinks In Gaming

While playing online games, like World of Warcraft, you may hear the term “Gold Sink” used by other players or bloggers.  I mentioned in a recent post myself about 2 new gold sinks coming in Patch 4.3 of World of Warcraft.  What exactly is a gold sink in online gaming?  First we must look at the ways gold can be obtained.  The we can understand the concept of a gold sink.

Obtaining Gold

Gold is obtained in only a few ways within World or Warcraft.

  1. Gold can be looted from creatures.
  2. Gold can be obtained from Non-Player Characters (NPCs). (Quest Rewards, Vendors)
  3. Gold can be obtained from other players.  (Trading, Auction House, PvP Looting)

Gold that is looted or obtained from NPCs is gold created by the game.  Gold that is from other players is just old gold that is exchanging hands.  Gold that is created and added to existing gold within the game has an effect on the gold value within the game.  As more gold is added to the game the value of each piece of gold decreases.  Over time, it takes more gold to buy the same services or goods due to the inflation of the economy.

Inflation naturally occurs in online gaming as expansions and new content are continously added and gold is more easily obtained.  Quest rewards get bigger.  Looted items and vendor trash vendor for more gold.  Humanoids drop more coin when killed or when pickpocketed.

Gold Sinks

Gold sinks are things added into the game to help combat inflation by taking gold out of the gaming economy.  Anything that removes gold from the players without transferring it to another player is considered a gold sink.  More often than not we generally only bring up the large pricetag goldsinks.  Something as common as repairing your gear at an NPC vendor is technically a gold sink within the World of Warcraft online game.  Something larger like the original 1000 gold price tag for Dual Spec, or 5k for Epic Flight, or the prices of unlocking guild tabs is a larger gold sink.  Larger gold sinks take more gold out of the economy.  A gold sink takes gold from players and that gold gets deleted from the game.  Even something as small as having vendor purchased materials be required in crafting recipes helps to slowly sink gold out of the gaming economy.

Can you name some of the larger gold sinks in World of Warcraft?

WoW Beginner Farming Tips & Tricks

Farming For Beginners

In World of Warcraft, there are many options for making gold.  You can choose to sell items on the auctions house.  You can choose to craft items to sell or craft and enchant for tips.  One of the easiest markets to get into is farming in WoW for raw materials to post on the auction house.  Why is farming an easy option for beginning players?  Farming requires only a time investment; no gold investment is required to profit from farming in World of Warcraft.  So a brand new player can train for skinning, mining, or herbalism profession and farm materials while playing the game and leveling.  Another option is to dedicate some time to strictly farming the raw materials.  Both options require just the profession skill and either a skinning knife for Skinning or a Mining pick for Mining.  Herbalists just use their bare hands or paws to farm herbs in WoW.

Beginner Tips and Tricks For Farming

Here is a handful of tips and tricks that you should consider when getting started as a beginning farmer in World of Warcraft.

  1. When farming keep your bags as empty as possible when you get started farming.  More bag space means you can carry more raw materials before having to return to either town or a mailbox.
  2. WoW Beginner Tips: Bigger bags are better.  For the same reason, more space means longer possible WoW farming sessions.
  3. Try to keep your gathering skill leveled before moving onto new questing areas.  You don’t want to have to go back to lower level zones or go back to kill grey mobs that award no experience.
  4. Set your hearth close by if sending items via the mailbox or set your hearth in a major city with an auction house, if selling the items directly from your farming character.  Time is money friend.
  5. If you are a dual-gatherer Skinner-Miner, save bag space with a combo gathering tool like a Bladed Pickaxe, which functions as a mining pick and a skinning knife.
  6. Farming during off-hours means less competition for resource nodes and skinable mobs.
  7. When selling your raw materials, you don’t always have to post them for the lowest price.  Many items like raw materials sell in great numbers and selling them as the cheapest isn’t required for your items to sell.
  8. If you are out farming for skins and hides with the Skinning profession, target creatures that can drop extra valuable items in addition to your targetted skins and hides.  Examples:  Yetis drop coins in addition to skins and hides.  Dragon Whelplings can be found on some Dragon Whelp type creatures, but they also are skinable.  Why not try for a rare drop as a possible extra bonus to farming the skinning materials?
  9. Research your targeted farming materials on a site like Wowhead.com.  Know where you are headed and find the best spot with the best creatures to farm.  If you are farming for a specific rare item drop, then be sure to farm in an area where the item has the best chance of dropping.
  10. Vendor all of your garbage you find.  In the span of a farming essions you will collect a lot of grey items that are only good for 1 thing – selling to a vendor.  These items add up and can bring in a nice amount of gold, especially if farming in some of the higher level zones in World of Warcraft.
  11. Don’t forget to bring along some food and mana for less down time.  A nice buff food can help speed up your farming session, if you are farming creatures or humanoids, since it will increase your damage and decrease your time on each kill.
  12. If there is another player farming in your area, it may be more efficient to find a new area instead of competing with them for the same resources.

Now get out there and farm up some materials to sell on the auction house to get you started learning how farming influences the markets in the World of Warcraft auction houses of Azeroth.
